- The day aims to give home educators the opportunity to take part in activities run exclusively for them, alongside being able to visit their temporary exhibitions at a discounted rate.
- Relaxed sessions for selected workshops and shows are being offered to better support neurodiverse and disabled children. Details can be found on the website.
- Relaxed breakout space will be available, located in the Lasting Impressions Learning Space. This space is intended to provide a calmer environment, where home educators can take time away from busier spaces and access optional activities and resources.
- Five workshops and shows to choose from with four of them costing £3.50 per child, and one being free. All times, recommended ages and further details about each workshop/show are available on the website.
- It is important to note that the museum will still be open to the general public on this day, alongside reduced numbers of school groups. The museum can be very busy year-round.
- Children must be accompanied by an adult. This includes during workshops, shows and talks.

Science Museum (Exhibition Rd, London, SW7 2DD)

- On dedicated home educator days you can pick and choose from a range of activities to create your own itinerary.
- Activities available on Thursday 30th April: Flash Bang Wallop; Mission to Space; Wonder Show; Wonderlab; Pattern Pod; Garden and Power Up. Some of the activities are free, others incur a cost. Activities vary in length. The Science Museum suggest ages for each activity. Each activity is repeated numerous times throughout the day. Further details about times and costs for each workshop are available on their website.
- Please Note: The Science Museum does state that if you are intending to book older or younger children into the sessions, bear in mind that the content may not be engaging for them, restless behaviour can affect the enjoyment of others in the audience. The museum is happy to recommend alternative things to do that might be more relevant.

- They want to accommodate as many children as possible, so they prefer not to exceed a 1:1 ratio for adults to children.
- If you are booking for a home education group, they require at least one adult for every eight children.
- For charged activities the prices apply to all children attending (including older and younger siblings), unless they will be sitting on an adult’s lap.
- To book you need to register on their website and then call the museum on 033 0058 0058 (option 1, then option 3). A member of their team will place your booking. If your booking includes charged activities, you’ll need to pay by credit or debit card when booking. Once booked, they will send an e-ticket that you must take with you for entry to the museum and any included activities.
- The museum is unable to send invoices, even for larger groups.

- Every workshop ticket includes a self-guided visit to Tower Bridge and the Engine Rooms. Allowing you to explore the iconic towers, take in the amazing views and experience the rush of the Glass Floors at your own pace.
- Suitable for children aged 7-11 years (they cannot accommodate any children under the age of 7, or any younger siblings on the sessions on this day).
- Meeting point is at the Tower Bridge Engine Rooms (located on the south-west side of the Bridge at river level). A member of the learning team will meet participants at the designated meeting point.
- Theme: Raise Tower Bridge – “Learn how the iconic structure opens and closes for passing boats then write and and input the code required to raise the roads of the animated Tower Bridge using Scratch.”
- Children must be accompanied by an adult. You must have tickets for all the adults and children attending.
- You must book workshop tickets in advance to join in.

- With advanced notice for Home Educator workshops they can provided tools to support your child’s learning such as resources in large print, braille, coloured overlays and visual stories. - Theme: Zip around London! – “Travelling independently on public transport is a big step for young people. We’re here to show you how to zip around London, explaining how to stay safe, make greener choices, and feel totally confident to make the most of London for yourself.”
- The museum states that the activities would be best suited to children who are about to start, or new to, travelling independently on London’s public transport. Further details about the activities on offer on the day can be found on the London Transport Museum website.

- Tour of the Palace of Westminster and participate in a variety of self-led, fun activities for all ages and abilities including Stages of a Bill, Petitions, Elections and Campaigning.
- Applications welcome from home educating families and home education groups with learners between the ages of 7 and 18 years.
- At least one adult must each household as a minimum (capped at two adults per household and a maximum of 4 students per household). You can contact them if your group needs more adults due to accessibility or SEND requirements.
- Applications for Home Education Days open one term in advance.
- They aim to run a Home Education Day each term (dependent on Parliamentary business need).
- Signing up to their education newsletter ensures that you will be the first to hear when dates are announced.
- Your constituency MP or a Member of the House of Lords will be invited to meet with you for a Q&A session at the end of the tour (subject to Parliamentary business).
- Make applications using the form on their website. You will receive an email confirming that they have received your application, this is not a confirmation of booking. They will then review your application and make contact via email to let you know whether you have been successful or not. This can take up to 8 weeks but may be longer dependent on demand.
- The Home Education Day for the autumn term will be on Friday 16th October 2026 (applications for this day are expected to open at the end of April).
