  • 10am – 2.30pm
  • Getting to Know Will Workshop
  • Activities included in this history workshop: writing with a quill, creating parchment tags, making wax seals, investigating plague remedies, making a lavender bag, learning how to stage a dramatic sword fight, having fun with William Shakespeare’s wonderful words and staging a snippet performance using his original text, exploring a Tudor farmhouse and meeting the animals.
  • Aimed at children aged 6-12 years.
  • Tickets cost £18.50 per child, one free accompanying adult. £5 per additional adult.
  • Booking is essential. You can book here.
  • Parking on-site is free of charge.
  • Each family group should have an accompanying adult who is required to remain with their child/ren throughout the day.
  • Registration opens at 9.45am for a prompt 10am start.
  • There is a break for lunch and space to enjoy your picnic. Please bring a packed lunch and drink as there aren’t any catering facilities on site.
  • Please let the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust know in advance if anyone in your family group has access needs that you think they should be aware of.
  • The site is wheelchair accessible, including toilets. However, due to the age and nature of farm site they do not have a hearing loop system set up.
  • The workshop will include walking outdoors, therefore they encourage people to wear sensible shoes (not wellies) and clothing that offers suitable protection against the possibility of wet weather (which could also lead to wet and muddy pathways).
  • Sunscreen is advisable in sunny weather.
  • Due to the potential for ticks in the long grass, children (and adults) are recommended to wear long trousers or knee-length (not ankle) socks to keep their legs covered.
  • Any accompanying females of child-bearing age should be aware that there are sometimes pregnant ewes, cows, goats and pigs on the farm.

  • Activities included in this drama workshop based around The Tempest include: exploring the major themes of The Tempest in a fun and and interactive way, finding out about the social and historical context play using artefacts and documents from the Trust’s archives, developing an understanding of the play’s narrative and how scenes fit together, rehearsing scenes from the play while working in small groups, performing an abridged version using original text, movement and music, exploring a Tudor farmhouse and meeting the animals.
